VV Brown - Travelling Like The Light

With an eclectic sound and fresh approach to the often monotonous and formulaic sounds currently circulating the music industry, VV Brown takes a daring chance with her album Travelling Like The Light.

Travelling Like The Light, VV’s introductory album, takes you on a retro ride back in time with its sound, along with modern lyrics that ring in honesty and truth.   On this record, Brown deems herself an artist who is indefinable.  One can’t box her into a particular genre of music because she runs the gamut mixing pop, soul, and rock.   She adds even more of a twist with synthetic sounds from video games.

Love is the common denominator in every song, portraying a different role each time VV peruses its highs and lows.  Anyone listening is somewhat of a voyeur, sharing feelings of falling in love, being in love, leaving love, losing love, experiencing unimaginable love, and finally accepting love.

Fun tracks on the album include “Quick Fix,” where you fall hard and fast, and “L.O.V.E.,” a tune that will get you high on the excitement of being with the one you love.  Each song includes groovy base guitars, strong percussions, and horns that ring with psychedelic influence.

“Leave,” “Game Over,” and “Crying Blood” are songs where love takes a dark turn.  However, the listener might miss it because the upbeat melodies overshadow the lyrical despair.  The songs effuse power, funk and energy through the throbbing bass guitar and synthetic horns.  Here, Brown creates a stark contradiction for the greater good of her sound.  The title track, “Travelling Like The Light,” unfortunately does not share the same zest.

Songs that cast a spell, leaving the listener in a melodic trance are “Bottles”, “Everybody”, and “Back In Time”.  The rhythm, flow, and catchy hooks will encourage many to keep these tracks on repeat.

Reminiscent of artists like Macy Gray and Amy Winehouse, VV is firmly rooted in her unique approach to music, as she is not one to compromise her artistry.  She’s a risk taker, determined to reveal who she is and connect with audiences.  Because of this, Travelling Like The Light never leaves the listener with a dull moment and is sure to garner adoration and appreciation from lovers of good music.
