Janelle Monae - Tightrope
Rip-roaring alternative-soul singer Janelle Monae premiered a brand new single for Pitchfork that will appear on her upcoming album, The ArchAndroid.
The new song, entitled “Tightrope,” proves exactly why critics worship at her shiny dress shoes, and why fans scramble to catch her live show. Monae offers a lesson in modern day funk with her rapid paced verses and finger-snap-worthy chorus, backed by lush harmonies and blazing horns. There’s even a little ukulele.
Just for a radio-friendly touch, Monae adds good friend and Outkast rapper Big Boi for a colorful bit.
The ArchAndroid is due in stores May 18 according to Pitchfork.
