The ninth season of American Idol is proving to be a bittersweet one for idol fans. While comments online show many are enjoying the addition of funny woman Ellen DeGeneres, they’re also trying hard to savor every harsh morsel that shoots from Simon Cowell‘s mouth, as this will be his final season with the show.
As fans and critics ponder whether or not the show can survive without Simon, season 2 alum and former TV Guide Idol correspondent, Kimberly Caldwell, tells us she thinks it’ll be DeGeneres who viewers tune in to see next season. “I think she’s going to save the show next year with Simon gone,” Caldwell told NeonLimelight.com in an interview this week. “I really, really do.”
Caldwell, who is releasing her long-awaited debut album, Without Regret, in April, admits she didn’t watch the audition rounds this year (“It’s not my job anymore,” she said with a laugh), but made sure to catch DeGerenes’ episodes and thinks “she fits right in.” She isn’t bothered by the fact that DeGeneres doesn’t have a musical background; her experience on stage is good enough. “People keep saying ‘oh, she doesn’t have a musical background.’ Well, she’s been on the stage her entire life being judged so she knows what it feels like to be up there.
“Not only that,” she continued, “but the general public is the one voting on who is gonna be the next American Idol — she is the general public… She’s more than qualified. I’m glad she’s there.”
When the subject of what life on Idol will be like without Simon came up, Kim was quick to say it might be “a bad idea” to replace him, but if anyone could, she says, it would probably be celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who recently made a play for the spot in a video pitch. “I think Perez is the only other person who is so brutally honest — genuinely brutally honest — that it might actually work with him. And his opinion is respected in the entertainment industry.”
So, what if Idol producers called Caldwell for the job? Would she take it? “Oh, heck yeah,” she told us. “That would be the easiest job in the world. You sit there and tell people what you think with your Coca Cola. I’d be so down for it.”

tho most people may think simon is awful, the honest truth is that he makes the show worth watchin. ellen is great but great on her OWN show. i dont think she’ll match up wit simon. she doesnt have any experience. n so far she’s made poor decisions on who sounds good n who doesnt
