Rihanna To Release Brand New Album This Summer

Rihanna has promised her next album will have a lighter sound than what fans heard on her fourth album, Rated R, and turns out, we won’t have to wait very long to hear it.

UK blogger Johnny Ikon, citing a source at Rihanna’s record label, Def Jam, reports the pop star will be releasing an album of all new material this summer.

NeonLimelight.com can confirm the reports are true, as we were tipped off by another record label source a couple weeks ago and were waiting for details to be confirmed before the info leaked.

While the source at Def Jam tells Ikon the quick push to release a new album is because “Ri wants to get across that she’s moved on from the dark period she was in when recording the ‘Rated R’ songs,” our source says that’s only part of the reason. The label is said to be unhappy with Rated R’s current performance. The album has been certified platinum in the United States and has had two top 10 singles with another, the snappy island-flavored “Rude Boy,” moving up the charts quickly, but it appears it hasn’t yet lived up to the label’s big projections or massive investments.

Our source says “Rude Boy” will likely be Rated R’s final single with the new album and tour taking priority after promotion ends. As for the new album, fans should expect more “dance” songs in the same vein of Good Girl Gone Bad’s smash “Don’t Stop The Music.”

not true about the failed expectations, but okay.

Not true at all. She’s doing a “Reloaded” version with some new tracks in addition to the album. She’s got a track with Guetta and some more uptempo tracks to bring Rated R out of the dark and into the light. I hate record labels so bad. Just let the album do it’s thing. Wait until in passes 1,000,000 in actual sales which is only 336,000 copies away! The album has sold over 2 million worldwide! Just let it do it’s thing, I’m sure the record label already braced themselves for this because lets face it, it’s a great album but not the type of album that generates millions like GGGB did. She took a risk with this album and I absolutely respect her even more because of that. Just look at the singles: “Russian Roulette” was a dark ballad and those never sell really well. Also look at her second single “Hard”. That song received acclaim but it was only released in the US, yet charted internationally. Her single “Rude Boy” is burning up the charts right now and will defintely push the album past 1 million for sure. Just give it some time, release “Photographs” for the summer internationally and “Rock Star 101″ for the US and Canada and she will be fine. Also, tours bring up album sales too so don’t count that out. I think by the end of this era, Rated R will have sold over 4 million copies worldwide. Not 8 million like Good Girl Gone Bad, but no one ever expected those kind of sale with such a dark and edgy album. If she wanted to, she could have worked with all the hit makers and had a 10 million selling album like that. She chose the more unsafe route and that deserves respect no matter what.

Compared to GGGB this album is a flop! I bet they thought after 20/20 and all the interviews and naked photoshoots she would go platinum in a week! Nobody buying that dark stuff and all thst cussin!! Time to keep it mooooovin!!

Quite Hatin her album did go platinum,This album is about her tragedy after the whole chris brown accident. So of course it’s gonna be dark and plus she beat out chris brown’s with her dark stuff so there.

I love this album. And all of it is not dark. There are some real bright spots that weren’t even given a chance, for instance the number 1 hit in waiting… FIREBOMB.

It’s the one, true love song on the album. Very real, very deep, and just good. It sucks that she’s not believed in as a true artist for her label to not resort to gimmicks and “what’s hot right now” versus letting her just be true to who she is and the story she wants or wanted to tell. It was great to see her evolution and depth as an artist. It sucks it’s being forsaken for “what sells” and keeps the money pushing. It was nice to get a little peak into the real Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Even though it was fleeting, it was nice while it lasted.

This is crap. Rated R is her best by far. It actually shows her and she had so much to do with this album. The album isn’t even that dark. It is intense and brilliant with a tint of dark. That is life though. She has so many songs on this album she could release. Just because it’s not all POP people have a problem with it and aren’t buying it. Sad story. I am sad that she’s just going to be doing what they want. I say fuck her company and whoever is making these dumb decisions. Firebomb is the best song for god sakes, why can’t she release that? Ugh. :(

One great step forward in terms of real artistry and now a quick 5 steps back to what “everybody wants”, the same old, same old pop, dance, and techno? Rihanna’s always been a trendsetter, leading the pack and doing her own thing. People actually followed when Don’t Stop The Music came out and now the dance/pop is everywhere. I expected her to continue in her trendsetting ways and keep taking music to new and different levels. This is pretty disappointing if true. Rated R is one her best creative works with real depth and meaning. Good Girl Gone Bad rocks and is, but it was fluff like everything else in pop. I hope they get behind the project and don’t just jerk it away.

“The album has been certified platinum in the United States” – Only for the simple fact that they have sent out a million copies to the stores BUT it has NOT sold 1million hard copies, she has yet to reach over 700,000 in the United States. Actually shes on the fourth single, yes im counting (the wait is ova) and none have reached number one. Justin Timberlake told MTV he has already sent Rihanna 10 new songs. So if anyone thinks that Rated R was successful as it should of been. IT WAS NOT, hints to why she has been doing OVER DOUBLE of promo. Most artist who release their album in the early fourth quarter are done with promotion in December.

  10. Duane says:

Your all wrong guys, She isn’t releasing a ‘New’ album she is re-releasing ‘Rated R’
with some new songs, which Rihanna promises to have more dance songs on there more energetic.
The re-release will be out in the summer. Unfourtunetly, ‘Rudeboy’ will be the last single in the US. Fans are quite dissapointed because they wanted a couple more released such has ‘ G4L ‘ Stupid In Love ‘ Fire Bomb’ ‘Photographs’ ‘Rockstar 101?

But Rudeboy will be the LAST single in the USA. But according to source, There will be one more single from Rated R in the US. However in the UK there will be 2 more Singles, ( Hard Wasn’t Released In The UK ) The two next singles in the UK, will be ‘G4L’ & Stupid In Love, I bet ya’ll think How do i know all this. Well My uncle works for (DS) and interviewed her last month ( The full interview will be on DS in the summer. a couple of weeks before her re-issued ‘RATED R’. However Rihanna said she is upset that the album diddn’t sell well. But my uncle explained that she said that Rihanna knew it wouldnt sell well because it was too personal. And that it was a bit to deep. But she wanted to get the message across how she was feeling at the time she branded it has A ‘Personal Album’ And she added that her last single in the UK will be up to the fans. But then she later added it probably will be stupid in love though” she then later put it clear and said, there aint going to to be a new album that was a load of bullsh*t. There will be a new album early 2011 though’ She said my debut single from the ‘Rated R gone Reloaded’ < yes thats the name of her re-issued album. Is being compared to Umbrella. If this re-issued album flops, because has you know Rated R only sold 5.2 million copies. If the re-issued copy flops I think that will be it for me.Theres only so much an artist can do,and if fans get bored of it I personally think the artist should QUIT! and thats exactly whats I'll do ( PLEASE EVERYONE BUY RATED R, AND RATED R GONE RELOADED i love RIHANNA we cant let her go!! ) She later added but i have so much confidence is in ' Rated R gone Reloaded' that I think it will sell well. And my uncle asked her about what the debut single will be like she said Ahh it will be huge. Back to the Good Girl Gone Bad days and A Girl Like Me days, Rated R to me is my favourite album because its me its more what i wanted to do she explains, But in terms of chart topping, Contempary record, Rated R isnt that.Rated R gone Reloaded' is exactly that. Although i love Rated R dearly, im totally past the darl suicidal murderous depressed sad moods i was in, which is sad, Has those months making Rated R, was slow torture i cried at the songs they was so meaningful. But i'm glad i did It. Looking to the brighter side this re-issued album will be Up-beat but still some of those contempary ballads. There will be duets/collabs will some really cool people JayZ david guetta. Just look out for it!

I'm really looking forward to this, after seeing the interview my self it explains more about how she was feeling what the re-issued album is about etc.

I love RIHANNA! ALL RIHANNA FANS WE HAVE GOT TO MAKE SURE HER RE-ISSUED ALBUM SELLS WELL. ELSE RIHANNA WILL BE QUITTING!!

  11. Rihanna Fan says:

I Dont Really Care. I Just Want Her To Make New Songs. I Love Rated R!! (L)

  12. RAFAEL says:

WHY IT GOT TO BE LIKE THAT BEYONCE

  13. danielle says:

im loving rated R i listen to it every day in my car i cant get enough. im so happy there is going to be a new album soon but i really hope it going to be the same quality i think its going to be difficult to top.
