We have even gotten down to the top 12 yet on American Idol season 9, but judge Simon Cowell is already backing a particular contestant: Crystal Bowersox.
Last night (March 8) at his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Cowell gushed about the dread-lock wearing quiet-storm, revealing her as the early favorite for the title. “I like this girl Crystal,” Cowell told Leno. He admitted he wasn’t the biggest fan when he first met her, but loves her growth and “confidence” over the past two weeks. “She was ill, she got over that, she’s got a great voice. She’s different. I like her.”
It’s really no surprise; the judges’ panel all praised Bowersox last week after her performance of “Long As I Can See The Light.” “Tonight you actually hit a new level,” Kara DioGuardi said. “We’ve got a serious artist with you,” Cowell added.
Along with putting his ‘favorite’ stamp on Bowesox, Cowell talked about last year’s competition and the way he feels about the outcome. “I personally thought Adam [Lambert] should have won as an overall artist,” he said.

Yes according to the haters, Adam Lambert “destroyed” the Idols – Adam Lambert must be a super influential figure in music industry to have that POWER…
I don’t think Adam should have won. Simon should run the risk you take when you have a show where ppl vote. Duh! They will choose who they want, not who HE wants!! I for one think Kris is more of an overall musician than Adam. Adam only has the voice. That’s nice. Please don’t ruin anymore classics, and then say Susan Boyle is the one who does that!

I don’t know about that. He has yet to have a real hit single. Kris has had one. Adam is beating him in album sales, but neither are really selling gangbusters.
Not only is he winning America, he is also winning the whole world. He is an international sensational artist instead of a “hometown hero”..
Adam’s single has just come out, several months later than Kris. But he’s already caught up on chart. As for the record sales, Adam is in a huge lead
Since you are a Kris fan, how do you google a piece of news without even his name on? Since you think Adam ruins music, why are you so obsessed with every piece of his news, including the fake Susan Boyle tabloid thing?

I like Simon because he’s usually honest, BUT, when it comes to endorsmenets he tends to just go with the sheep. If it were a pure, 100% singing contest, It’s obvious that Siobhan is a slightly better vocalist, or at worst, just as good as Crystal. Now they are both my favorites for the the year. However, the pre-show hype surrounding Crystal makes me want to vomit now that I think about it. And she gets compared to Kelly Clarkson when she doesn’t quite even do the same things Kelly used to do with her voice. However, Siobhan, who has more versatility and comes a tad closer to Kelly vocally goes unnoticed. She croons softly, can sing in mid range, and can go into belt-it-out power mode. But so far Crystal has seemed to remain within a limited box with her singing. Yes, she’s really good, but it’s not quite the level of what Siobhan has shown.
Then last week, Crystal and Paige both got compliments for reminding him of Kelly Clarkson. But when Siobhan did a great job at “Think”, which Kelly did, Simon didn’t give her any in that sense. And I don’t really mind him liking Crystal, because I do too..
But what’s bugging me is that Crystal was already hyped every where I look before the season began! Her face is in most thumb nails. And all the people who can’t really listen critically think she’s the winner even though we don’t have a top 12 yet!!! And now to put the final touch on it Simon is endorsing her even though for all he knows Siobhan will out do her! So what is the effect of that? Tone deaf sheep everwhere will vote only for Crystal. Not because she’s a great singer, but because every one says she’s the one etc. Not that they can hear, but because they were told. And she’s an ok pick because she does have a great voice, BUT again what about Siobhan?
Siobhan is already turning the tide a bit with her voice as people are waking up, but the end result may be that she goes home earlier than she should no matter how good she can sing. Also think about this. I’d be willing to bet Siobhan could mimick anything Crystal does. However if asked, I have doubts that Crystal could do everything Siobhan has done so far vocally. And if that’s the truth, you have to wonder how this is really a fair competition. Plus add in that Kara thought Casey sounded better with his shirt unbuttoned and you have a 100%, pure mess.
All I’d like to see is for Siobhan to have a fair shot to win, just like Crystal does. Because I want to know how far she could go with that voice. I want to know if she could have beaten Crystal. But I will never know because everyone has already decided….
I agree that Simon is pumping Americsa full of Crystal, but get this… Crystal verses Siobhan, no comparison. Siobhan has way better vocals and range, but Crystal is more of a “true artist.” I can see Crystal writing some phenenomonal songs with character, and I can see Siobhan singing other people’s songs with character very well. We have PLENTY enough good vocalists out there selling millions of recorts. I consider myself a great vocalist. I don’t consider myself to be a great “artist”. I don’t see Siobhan having the creativity that we need in the music world.
it doesn’t matter if crystal doesn’t win idol…all she needed was exposure, now that the world has seen what she can do, she’ll definitely be signed after she leaves the show…siobhan has great vocals, but i can’t picture what her sound will be like as a recording artist,crystal however has already written amazing songs…have u heard any of them yet?…crystal’s the better artist…
I know Crystal is good and has got a great style. The thing about Siobhan is she is another Linda Ronstadt who sang country, rock, pop rock, etc…Siobhan’s voice is absolutely beautiful, so melodic and BIG! I guesss it’s really a personal thing but I hope Siobhan wins and if not I sure hope she comes out singing all styles of music because she can do it.
I agee that Siobhan is more versitle and deserves a fair shot at this. I hope the judges don’t pick her apart too much because she is truly good!! I like Crystal also, but I do believe that Siobhan has more range and unfortunately may be overlooked. It is up to the fans to vote for her.

Siobahn sucked with “THINK”. People only liked her because that one high note she hit. The rest was a mess.Crystal is different and will bring janis joplin style back to mainstream music. Siobhan will do another boring already have pop song. Again..Crystal is better.
Im sorry, but Crystal is way better than Siobahn. Not even a close comparison of the two. I thought Siobahn was not even decent last week, that one song she did was really really bad and most people thought the same thing.
Didi by far has the best voice (tone and control). She should win on pure talent alone.
I agree with Simon. While I like both Adam and Kris, I think Adam should have won. Every single show from semifinals on he created a complete moment of both sound and visual with his voice, his arrangement choice, his fashion and his staging. Love him or hate him, people buzzed every week wondering what the heck he would do next. I sometimes think winning actually hurt Kris, placing too many expectations on the guy. Anyway, I wish them both the best.
As for this year’s contestants, no one has grabbed me right out of the gate, but both Crystal and Siobhan are definitely worth watching.
Bowersox is a true talent. Don’t know if her vocal range is better then singer a or b. But she is not such a product. She can find a niche in the female singer/songwriter genre which is really strong and good. I would like her to take on an Ani Difranco song which I suspect is not Idol friendly. But may be good for her career. Hopefully she can write or collabarate with good writers. She will never gain Clarkson, country girls success but might actually be a really listenable artist after her contract with AI expires. She reminds me of Taylor Hicks (as far as the show,with better likeabilty) outsider. But much bigger potential. We have enough Celine, Whitney and Mariah careys to last a generation. If she does write I would love to see her bust out her best original before they outlaw that in the coming weeks. Maybe that is against the rules.
There is not a point in arguing about this any longer.
No one can really understand the result of Season 8.
But Adam Lambert is on his way to become a world idol. That’s enough.

Simon could be correct about Crystal taking the lead on this season’s American Idol but I don’t get it when he says that Adam should have won AI. He talks so much to the contestants about personality and Adam has none. Maybe then when season 8 was on we were all misled to believe that Adam was a down to earth talented person but many of us are shocked to have found out otherwise. Adam talks about other artists in a bad way, that is so inmature. He is jealous about others doing better than him and supports the dirt he presented at the AMA awards. When asked about this incident his answer is of how proud he is of what he has done and that he would do it again. I think Simon is done with American Idol. He is so bored with the show that he is talking without really thinking that is why he is leaving. How can a person in his right mind still support Adam who even rants about Susan Boyle. It is so obvious that Adam is so much into himself and very jealous of Susan’s cd sales. Unbelievable
