Katelyn Epperly, Todrick Hall, Alex Lambert, Lilly Scott - FOX
The top 12 finalists on season 9 of American Idol were announced tonight, but we didn’t get there without a couple of shockers.
The first came when 19-year-old Katelyn Epperly was eliminated after standing side by side with 24-year-old Paige Miles. Both had a rough night on Tuesday’s performance show. Katelyn delivered an emotionless rendition of Carole King’s “I Feel The Earth Move,” while Paige couldn’t overcome her emotions or nerves during a performance of “Smile.”
The guys’ first cut was no surprise. Dancer turned singer Todrick Hall lost his place in the top 12 due to inconsistency. His performance Wednesday night of “Somebody To Love” was a mess in parts, spectacular in others, much like his journey on Idol.
19-year-old mullet-sporting shy guy Alex Lambert‘s elimination was an emotional one. Dubbed an “unripened banana” by Ellen DeGeneres on the first live performance night, he tried his best to conquer his nerves and become more confident as the show progressed. But ultimately it was his nerves and his inability to loosen up that sent him packing, despite having one of the most raved about voices.
Quirky pixie Lilly Scott‘s exit in favor of 17-year-old Katie Stevens was easily the biggest shocker of the night. Scott was hailed by the judges as one of the top performances, second only to standout Crystal Bowersox. Stevens, on the other hand, struggled from week to week to find her sound.

Alex Lambert shouldn’t have been voted off the show. He should have been at less one of the top 4. I’m pissed! I have watched many of the seasons and this is probably the biggest mistake ever. Its not like I’m from his city or state and he has more talent than half of the people lefted on the show. I am so mad, I could care less to watch the rest of the season and I think there is a lot of people that would agree with me. How could the 16 year old boy who sucked have made it over Alex. Who agree with me?

I was very upset and completely shocked that this young girl beat Lilly. I have watched every show and I couldn’t remember any of her unappealing songs if I tried. But Lilly shot out like a rocket! I pray someone grabs her for a record deal!! I know I will buy it!!! The other girl’s? Never! Really disappointed and the sadness of it all, besides talent, is that the girl that won was so young and inexperienced compared to Lilly. I felt that it was going to be Lilly’s time. I can tell she has worked hard to be so good! What a humiliating shame!!! I KNOW I will VOTE VOTE VOTE from now on. I wouldn’t have even considered Lilly going home! Not once!!! IF America prefers the younger girl over Lilly, I pity the country’s taste in music!!! Lilly, girl, stand tall! I will be the first in line to buy your unique music!!!
OMG, I totally agree!! I Cant believe LILLY SCOTT got voted off! She has an amazing voice, and her style of music is different and unique!! I LOVE HER. She’s one of the best singers ever on the show…and she gets cut? WHATS WRONG WITH AMERICA?!? (im asian:P) I cant believe that Katie Stevens girl got in…and that paige girl….is very forgettable. I Wish they had a Wild Card show like last year!! :( But they’re not going to…!!!! GAWD. Also I think that Adam has an amazing and different voice! Sure, hes a bit shy but it doesnt really matter…i thought he was actually getting better! :( Whatever…!! American Idol is getting more crappier every year!!!
absolutely ridiculous how wrong america got the top 6 Girls. Getting rid of Epperly and Scott was horrible. It makes me not even want to watch the show. Epperly’s “Scientist” was one of the most emotional, unbeleivable performances I have ever seen on the show, and come on, Lily Scott! She is easily in the top 3 of the girls. In my opinion, Lacy Scott and Paige Miles should have got the boot. “I just don’t know what america wants to hear” Sums up my thoughts quite well.
Yes, and I also agree that Alex should have never gone! He, TOO, like Lilly was raw talent. This is supposed to be a learning path and his voice was just beautiful…so what about being nervous…he would lose that! Another ignorant loss for American Idol. I will miss them both! I have never watched a full show of Idol and this is one example that makes me want to stop again now. Love the cute Casey. Love his voice, too. May not be the best voice, but it touched me the first time I heard him. And I hope Alex steps up because he HAS some talent too, but isn’t showing his gifts that give me goose bumps! Both he and Lilly and a few others have been a blessing to hear this year!! And didn’t watch last year, but sorry to say it, but those goobers on the piano looked like good piano players but my God!!! There must have been little competition last year!!! Pathetic. Good piano talent, but nothing else about them did I even remotely like…two nerds!
Should have been hands down BOOTED off: Katie Stevens!!!!! (certainly NOT Lilly), Page Miles, Todrick Hall (though I loved his personality), the boy with the black bowl cut who was a replacement…forgot his name…NOT Alex!!! Alex was awesome. Just needed some time…the whole purpose of the show to find a diamond in the rough. But it looks like some of the rough is starting the show!!! VERY VERY disappointed, especially about Alex and Lilly leaving!
i think america made a mistake. lily scott should have been IN and katie stevens OUT…no offence to katie, i’m just basing on performance.

OMG, Lily Scott and Alex Lambert is out? For me they both deserve the chance to stay. Yet its a tough choice for America, good luck to the top 12 especially Didi. :)
Lily Scott shouldn’t have been voted off. And Todrick shouldn’t have been either.
I’ll never watch idol again but I hope bowersox wins! Bad choices America, 3 of the best are now gone, “eh”?

OMG! I really love Alex Lambert’s voice. He shouldn’t have been voted out so early…He was amazing these past three performances…so sad…I don’t even like the rest of the guys…well, except for Lee… but he’s always pitchy…
Not one of them deserved to go home. It should have been Paige Miles, Katie Stevens Aaron Kelly, and Tim Urban. Lilly Scott is one of the best contestants American Idol has ever seen. Alex Lambert has the best male voice then ANY of the guys (Yes, better than Mike’s Alex has raw deep complete pure tequinque.)
American Idol and itunes have lost a lot of downloads by eliminating Alex Lambert and Lily Scott. Most of the 12 left are so oridinary. Ridiculous results.
I thought Alex had the best voice of all the guys, maybe he lacked experience, but no one had a better recording voice.

Vote for the worst has been pushing Paige and Urban so that’s why we lost Lilly and Lambert that sucks, if it wasn’t for Bowersox and Shoshana I wouldn’t keep watching but those 2 are going be huge stars and I’m glued to my tv watching them

It just proves the vote is fixed, the show puts through those that they want.
my god i like alex lambert so much…. but i love tim urban.. tim is so cute and hot but alex sounds great.. lee dewze is one of the best contender together with aaron kelly.. how i wish i live in USA
Truly surprising results on last night’s show. I really thought that Paige was going to be eliminated and fully expected Lilly to stay.
Obviously this is simply a plot of the show to get more audience view. People always say that “I’ll never watch AI again” after their favorites were voted off BUT in the end they simply want to watch it more, to find more flaws in the show and pin it down more. Nevertheless, it gets the audience going. I’ve noticed the show’s rating weren’t high since the start of Season 9, for the simple fact that it’s getting redundant and boring. The show has to make sacrifices to save the ratings.
Simply put, show’s rigged and the elimination of the good ones was simply a move to catch audience ratings.
