American Idol Cast-Off Alex Lambert Talks Elimination, Covers Mario On The Ellen Show

Alex Lambert

A petition to get him back on the show was unsuccessful, but American Idol season 9 cast-off Alex Lambert got to perform on a big stage this week courtesy of Idol judge and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

The 19-year-old, who Ellen hilariously compared to an unripened banana in week one of the live shows, treated The Ellen Show viewers to a stripped down acoustic version of Mario’s Ne-Yo-penned hit “Let Me Love You” looking far more confident than he ever did on the Idol stage. We think this kind of performance might have gotten him into the top 12.

In his brief interview with DeGeneres, he told her he fared better than he initially thought he would on Idol because he believed his “worst stage-fright ever” would have ended his Idol career earlier.

I am still upset that he was voted off, his voice was awesome and by far the most unique. I really hope he comes out with a CD, I would totally buy it.

it kind of sucks that let me love you was the song he wanted to sing but was talked out of it! I still think trouble was really good and I am still very upset that he is gone, being on the show longer would have done everything for him! I hope he still is able to make it!

FYI, the petition has not stopped.

  6. Tracy says:

The petition is still going strong. It reached over 17,000 signatures this morning. Alex WILL be brought back on the stage:)

Alex Lambert will go back to American Idol because he is our next American Idol.

Alex Lambert’s sound and music and the way he phrases his lyrics moves me to the core of my soul.

WOW, after all the drama in the past week, now we learn of THIS?? You’ve got to be kidding me. An American Idol PRODUCER advising Alex Lambert to sing a song (Trouble) he apparently didn’t want to sing??!!! Frankly, I’m not surprised because there was something about his appearance on The Ellen Show that made me think there was more he wanted to tell America. (I could tell how he excitedly says “I love that song” right before he leaves Ellen’s chair to go perform on the stage.) I can definitely see how this contributed to him LOSING VOTES, not to mention all the votes that went to Tim Urban & Paige Miles due to evil websites like votefortheworst.com, whose sole goal is to sabotage the show. Let’s not forget they are also sabotaging people’s LIVES here. The fact that a producer swayed his song choice decision and it ultimately contributed to his elimination is just plain wrong. Clearly, the Mario “Let me love you” song was more popular with his teen demographic and would have helped him get more votes. Just check YouTube, Twitter, etc. and you’ll see all the comments and 5-star ratings for his version of the Mario song. It’s received more positive feedback and buzz than the Trouble song, that’s for SURE. I’ve said it before and I will continue to say it: ALEX LAMBERT SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE HOME. The voting system is completely flawed. Really, American Idol & FOX?? Is this how you wanted to go out? You could have gone out on the top, but instead, as of this moment, you are choosing to go out on the bottom. The ball is in your court to do something now. Why do you continue to ignore the petition, blogs, Twitter and all other social media outlets? You are damaging your own brand by ignoring this. It’s ultimately YOUR loss because now Alex has built up such a huge fan base that he’ll likely be fine in the long run. We’d all really love for him to come back on Idol. Us loyal (7 yrs for me) fans love (or loved) American Idol and it’d be a WIN-WIN situation. I did not watch AI this week. It was tough canceling the series recording on my DVR, but I did it for a young man with a voice of GOLD: Alex Lambert. PETITION TO BRING ALEX BACK AI: http://www.change.org/actions/view/bring_alex_lambert_back_on_american_idol

Alex’s original song choice would have appealed to the younger viewers, who make up a large percentage of the voters. It’s kind of disappointing to learn about producers giving input like this, especially when so often judges complain about poor song choice. How are producers not interfering with those choices?

Alex’s performance on Ellen really proved what he could have and should have done. He was eliminated way too quickly.

  10. julie says:

Too bad one of AI’s producers encouraged Alex to NOT sing Mario’s Let Me Love You, and convinced him to sing Trouble which is obviously the least popular song choice by the younger viewers.

    Sounds fishy, imo.

Whoa! Don’t go telling people the petition was unsuccessful cause it wasn’t, please everyone go and sign, it is getting bigger by the minute! I personally am so upset about an Idol producer influencing Alex to sing the exact song that got him booted that I will not rest until we get a reaction, they are just ignoring the cries of the people to bring Alex back! As everyone can tell from the petition and all the articles and responses online, Alex has a HUGE fan base and him being eliminated doesn’t make sense at all :( Do you even remember any other contestants that were eliminated so early in the past years? Ya, me either except for one who was brought back as a wild card and that’s Clay Aiken. Yup, Clay Aiken was eliminated before the top 12 and I felt the exact same feeling for him as I do for Alex, they both just have ‘it’. And guess what, Clay almost won and he is definitely a huge star these days, no arguing that. Please Idol producers, do what’s right and bring back Alex, it will be the best thing you ever did!

  12. Kathryn says:

“Let Me Love You” would have been the perfect song for Alex to sing on American Idol….American Idol should not have swayed the song choice.

  13. Daniella says:

Alex is amazing and sooooo unique in his style and voice!!! Totally should have been in the top 12!! I voted for him so much!!!! I was so sad when he left!! Especially seeing this adorable kid’s reaction!!!

  14. Sawyer says:

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Alex’s cover of Let Me Love You!!! His vocal ability is astounding, and he has so much room to grow as an artist. He is just starting out and we were just beginning to see everything that this young man can do! He’s such a humble kid and endearing to us all at home. Please bring Alex Lambert back to Idol!
