If only her voice was as alluring as her piercing eyes, Lacey Brown would still be around on season 9 of American Idol.
The 24-year-old fire-haired singer was the first to be sent packing this season, after a forgettable performance of “Ruby Tuesday” during the Rolling Stones theme night, as the judges hold on to their “save” option.
Introduced last season, the save allows the judges to keep a singer in danger of elimination in the competition up until the top five. The vote to use the save has to be unanimous and it can be used only once. It was created to rescue singers with the potential to win, but somehow fell short of America’s votes that week (think Chris Daughtry‘s or Jennifer Hudson‘s early exits).
Before the results came down, Lacey waited for her fate with the rest of the bottom three singers, comprised of 20-year-old Tim Urban and 24-year-old Paige Miles, who fought laryngitis on performance night.
Lacey didn’t seem very shocked by her elimination. She’s already thinking ahead saying country music may be the path she takes. “I’m excited for the future,” she told Ryan Seacrest.
Standout performer Crystal Bowersox is safe, of course, but she addressed Simon Cowell saying she’s been performing like she’s got the competition in the bag during the critique of her performance of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” Tuesday night. “Don’t put words into my mouth…this is still anyone’s competition,” she said.
The 11 remaining contestants take the stage again next Tuesday.
Well, Lacey got eliminated and its not too emotional only because she was never really a favorite but she wasn’t nearly the worst either. I guess the hardest part was that this would have been her second attempt which means she’s got some inkling of a real future in singing but probably will be very niche, like the cardigans or sixpense. Otherwise I stick to my opinion that Siobhan will take it all and Crystal will be the runner up.
