Video: David Cook Performs “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” On American Idol Results Show

David Cook

If the watered down rock stylings of this season’s Lee Dewyze has left you missing the days of David Cook, you were in for quite a treat when the season 7 winner returned to American Idol tonight (March 17) for a performance.

Taking the stage with his guitar in hand and keeping to this week’s Rolling Stones theme, David performed the legendary group’s song, Jumpin’ Jack Flash.

After his truly rocking performance, David briefly talked about his new record. “We’ve been going through the writing process since the 1st of the year and I’m really excited about this record!” We are too!

The only reason I even watched was to see David Cook & The Anthemic, and they seriously ROCKED!

Wow. Haven’t been keeping track of David Cook – but he was pretty hot tonight. How come we don’t hear him on the radio more? I’m kinda with Jason – can he come back again next week? hahaha.

David was, as always, INCREDIBLE. He has such a superior instrument. He is a dramatic tenor, which is the most powerful of the tenors, and it shows!!! I am a vocal coach and am on a mission to explain to people how resonant and unusual his voice truly is – and HUGE! The vibrato is just spinning with freedom !!!
I will never understand why 19 isn’t releasing more singles off of the record. It’s got a lot more that is yet untapped. are they just TONE DEAF???

Great to read an opinion of a professional vocal coach about David Cook`s voice. Thanks! His voice is the one thing that makes me to love him, it`s unique. His awesome talent is an other thing that makes him superb. This performance of JJF by RS made it so clear, nobody else comes even near to him, when it`s about how to deliver a classic rock song. He`s the best idol ever and sure to become a big star eventually. Cannot wait his second major label album to drop!

I Loooove reading what you have to say about David’s voice. Can you explain its hypnotic and addictive nature? I really need help here. I mean, even when he talks – like when he was on Ryan Seacrest’s show today – there is just something about his voice that soothes and hits ya where you live at the same time. But when he SINGS, oh my, it is beyond wonderful. I mean I have liked many singers before, but I LOVE David Cook’s voice. Can you come to Twitter and counsel the Cookheads there, lol ?
And I agree about the record…. My God, all the BEST songs are just sitting there never released as singles. I truly love I Did it for You, A Daily Anthem, Heroes, Avalanche, Lie, and Life on the Moon. And don’t get me started on Analog Heart.

David Cook’s performance of Jumpin’Jack Flash was incredible. He had to so intimidate the newbies. This is the way it’s done guys. Want to be a rock gawd, take some tips from Cook. Best Idol ever. Neal Tieman was on fire!!!
David is the best Idol ever!!!! There will never be another like him.

  6. TK says:

Yeah, Cook was awesome last night. The best thing about the show by a mile, and while that sounds like it’s not saying much, his performance was really quite exceptional even amongst the typical Idol guest performance. I remember his performance on last years finale being a stand-out as well, but in a different way than this one. That time he played a slow ballad that really showed off his range and emotion – this time is was just a heavy rocker that proved you don’t have to rearrange a song radically in order to have an Idol “moment” that Simon keeps talking about. Cook’s my favorite winner ever – he’s the real deal for sure.

Once again David Cook took a song and gave it the kind of performance that brought out its heart and soul. I felt the strap on the back and the feel that bled and the spike in his head. I’ve listened to the RS live version, the Bon Jovi, the Aretha, and the Tina Turner versions via YouTube now. YMMV, but David’s was the most powerful performance for me, both vocally and from his great band, The Anthemic.

  8. Pierre says:

David and his band were great!

  9. Annie says:

Here’s hoping Idol has Cook back on soon!

  10. Sonja says:

UGH…David Cook is a horrible singer, what happened to him. I guess his 15 are up…not singing his own music stinks..Ke$ha was good.
