Singer Ricky Martin says he is in “an amazing emotional place of comprehension, reflection and enlightenment,” that has helped him announce what many have thought for years: he’s gay.
“I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man,” he revealed in the final line of a lengthy letter to his fans posted on his official website today (March 29). “I am very blessed to be who I am.”
The Livin’ la Vida Loca star said there was no “fear of my truth” and that it in fact “fills me with strength and courage.”
He cites his twin sons, Matteo and Valentino, born in August of 2008, as reasons for coming out: “To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids where [sic] born with. Enough is enough. This has to change.”
In a statement posted to the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLADD) website, president Jarrett Barrios said “his [Ricky Martin's] decision to model this kind of openness and honesty can lead to greater acceptance for countless gay people in U.S., in Latin America and worldwide.”

I’m so glad that you have decided to share your inner most self with us. I have always been a fan even when you have been out of the limelight. I always hoped you were gay; but it just didn’t seem to be who you were. Thank heavens I was wrong and you set the record straight. I have known I was gay from when I was in first grade. However I was always so ashamed of who I am that I have never allowed myself to happy with being me. I’ve been 2 relationships that turned abbusive and made my life miserable. Now I’m 35 and feel stuck. I wonder if you have some advice for me. I live in South Florida. I don’t go out though. I guess I’m waiting for true love to just happen. The previous relationships have been disasters and they were found when I put myself out there in the clubs. Now all I meet are plastic self centered.

I remember when Ricky Martin first came out females went crazy over him. I would never have thought then that he is gay but people are just who they are.
