American Idol Results: Top Nine Sing On Without Didi Benami

Didi Benami - FOX

Tim Urban, known as Teflon Tim, is still in and Didi Benami is out.

Didi, the girl who wore her heart on her sleeve — sometimes to a fault — since the beginning of the competition when she sang “Hey Jude” in memory of her deceased best friend at her audition was sent packing last night after a rough performance of “What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted” on Tuesday night’s R&B themed episode.

Despite having one of the most distinct and emotive voices (when she was having a good night) in the competition, consistency became an issue. Her hauntingly gorgeous rendition of Fleetwood Mac‘s “Rhiannon” was a highlight, but she had other extremely low moments to match Tuesday, like her disjointed rendition of “Lean On Me” in the semi-finals. “You’ve lost your way…I don’t know who you are anymore,” Kara DioGuardi told her Tuesday.

Before learning her fate, Tim Urban and Katie Stevens joined Didi in the bottom three.

Tim’s inclusion in the bottom three was no surprise. He’s had weak performance after week performance, but his positivity and “adorable” face (according to Ellen DeGeneres) keeps the votes rolling it. (It also helps that he is Vote For The Worst‘s season choice.)

Katie, on the other hand, was a bit of a shock. Finding her sound has been a problem, but she was showered with praise Tuesday for her vocal performance on Aretha Franklin‘s “Chain of Fools.”
