Tim Urban - FOX
On Tuesday night’s performance show on American Idol, Ellen DeGeneres compared Tim Urban‘s weekly performances to the unpredictable “soup of the day” at a restaurant. Well, looks like Tim has officially been taken off of the menu.
The 20-year-old singer from Duncanville, TX was eliminated on Wednesday night’s (April 21) results show, that also doubled as the fundraising event, Idol Gives Back.
It was a bumpy and uncertain road for Tim from the very start. After being cut before the top 24, Urban was called back by producers when another semi-finalist was disqualified.
After a rough performance of OneRepublic‘s “Apologize” during the first week of competition, it seemed Urban wouldn’t make it very far in the competition. “We absolutely made the right choice the first time around by not putting you through,” Simon Cowell said. The harsh blow was soften when the judges told him people would still vote because he’s “adorable” and “likable.” Boy, were they right.
Week after week, and weak performance after weak performance, Tim used his charm, and most notably his twinkling smile, to win over voters. It wasn’t until the last couple of weeks that he actually got praise for what he brought musically. His delightful rendition of “All My Loving” by the Beatles made the judges sit up and take notice — and make an apology of sorts. “You take the criticism like a man…I’m very, very proud of you,” Cowell told him.
The praise continued on Elvis night with his take on “Can’t Help Falling In Love.” “You have managed to go from zero to hero in two weeks,” said Cowell of Tim’s performance. And although Tim’s performance of “Better Days” by the Goo Goo Dolls Tuesday was panned by the judges, he smiled through the criticism — much like he did last night when he found out he’d be going home.
Tim was joined in the bottom three by Aaron Kelly and Casey James.
I don’t know who is voting but some of the ones left should of been gone way before others. I am watching this year casue it is amusing and not exciting.

It’s a contest.. I give them credit for getting up there doing there thing, then get racked over the coal’s & taking it.. As for Tim, he had his good & his bad, as all singers do.. The winner in this contest is Crystal…she has heart

he was by far the worst. he only stayed on as long as he did because of teenie boppers voting for him because of looks. you don’t have to be talented anymore to sell records. its sad how america has fallen to new lows putting looks over talent.
I really liked Tim a lot. I thought he oozed charisma, which is sometimes worth more than a huge vocal range. I am not a teeny bopper, but a thirty-something professional, and I happen to think he has a lot of talent. He is cute as well, but he has an indefinable something that made me watch him more than some of the other contestants that were given more praise for their vocal talent. Good luck Tim!!

I didn’t watch American Idol ever again sometime last year or before — since they often, I thought, were very unfair to so many.. especially, –since, no chorus – no music backround – no piano, no tune, no assistance just dry & unrehearsed, to hard-nosed judges that apparently, in my opinion really don’t give the benefit of the doubt — and don’t know real talent when they get it—I mean- POTENTIAL. So many shot down — and so many that should never have been let in there in the first place. Me ? .. if its in the predicate of a sentence ? It seems, when I was a Kid .. I went through this English trip, .. and thought that, “I” .. was correct too.. till somebody told me that it wasn’t .. & that “Me” was correct, Huh! .. unless this is some ‘secret message’ he’s trying convey –maybe this is ‘off the cuff’!! too ! i agree tim was ok but not great crystal prob will be the winner if she doesnt screw up. the only reason tim was here so long was looks. lilly should of stayed
