No artist likes when their album leaks. After months, sometimes years, of working on a set, many artists and their fans look forward to the big release day to enjoy the music.
But this is 2010. That’s not happening.
Rap newcomer Drake understands the current climate in the business, so when his long-awaited album, Thank Me Later, leaked in full yesterday (June 1) — two weeks before the official June 15 release date — he didn’t freak out. He took it all in stride.
“I gave away free music for years so we’re good over here,” the rapper, who built his buzz on mixtapes years before signing a record deal, posted to his Twitter account following the leak. He followed up with one simple request: “Just allow [the album] to be the soundtrack to your summer and ENJOY! JUNE 15th!”
