Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
The fact that the booklet for Katy Perry‘s new album, Teenage Dream, is scented — the delightful (or dreadful, you choose) aroma of cotton candy whiffs from the pages — and that the cover is simply a dreamy painting of herself resting nude on a cotton candy cloud means Perry paid close attention to making every detail that went into her Capital Records sophomore album an enjoyable experience for fans’ every sense.
Enjoyable is precisely what the 12-song set of mostly light and fluffy pop tracks are for those who take it — and Katy — for what they are. She’s not trying to change the face of pop music, she’s trying to make it fun — plain and simple.
Teenage Dream kicks off with the sunny title track about being in love and feeling young and reckless. It’s a theme that carries throughout the album on tracks like the Ke$ha-esque drunken romp “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” the almost ridiculously lovesick “Hummingbird Heartbeat,” the slick futuristic love letter “E.T.,” and the raunchy “Peacock,” where she throws an extremely thinly veiled double entendre around over a hand-clapping, cheerleader-esque beat that makes you feel like sooner or later Katy will break out singing about how fine Mickey — or at least his genitalia — is.
Katy takes a darker turn on only a few songs, like “Who Am I Living For?,” about suppressing her true self to appease others, “Pearl,” about a timid girl losing herself in the hovering shadow of a controlling boyfriend (turns out that girl is Katy), and puts a druggie ex on blast on the 80s-sounding synthy rock b*tch-out, “Circle The Drain.” “Wanna be your lover, not your f*cking mother…I’m not gonna stay and watch you circle the drain,” she scolds.
Katy’s brief diversion from candy-coated up-tempo tunes try to bring a more grown up feel to the record, but in the end, Teenage Dream is simply a pure pop merry-go-round you’ll want to play on all summer long, preferably with cotton-candy in hand.

Katy Perry’s album delivers. Not only are her vocals amazing, but the beats and harmonies are great. No wonder her singles are breaking records! -JC
This cd is nothing but bubblegum pop, dont kike most of the beats, and when I seen her sing it live it was worse! What happened to you Katy? Please quit trying to copy that phony balony Kesha, cuz thats what this cd sounds like, one disaster (Kesha) in the industry is enough thanks! I do like Teenage Dream the single though!
