R&B singer Mario was arrested early this morning (October 1) for allegedly assaulting his mother, reports the Baltimore Sun.
Just before 1 AM, a police officer responded to a “mental case breaking up property” inside of the apartment Mario shared with his mother, Shawntia Hardaway, in his hometown of Baltimore. Once inside the complex’s lobby, police spoke with Hardaway who was “crying and appeared very upset,” according to their report.
Hardaway alleges Mario had been “throwing and damaging property” and pushed her violently. When asked by police if she feared for her life, she responded, “Yes.”
The “Let Me Love You” singer was charged with 2nd degree assault and released on $50,000 bond.
Hardaway told police this is the second time this week Mario has been violent with her, though she doesn’t explain why. Days earlier on September 27, mother and son got into a heated argument and Mario pushed Hardaway “eight feet into a living room wall, where Ms. Hardaway hit her head on the wall,” the Baltimore Sun quoted the police report as saying.
Mario’s history with his mother is a complicated one. In 2007, he appeared on a MTV documentary where it was revealed his mom battled heroin addiction for years and was trying to stay clean.
