Drake pulled double-duty as nominee and host at the 2011 JUNO Awards, held last night (March 27) in Toronto. Along with introducing performers and presenters, Drake’s job as host included entertaining the audience and viewers with pre-taped sketches throughout the night. Often times at awards shows these kinds of sketches border on cheesy more so than funny, but in Drake’s case, there was nothing but hilarity to be seen.
In the sketch that opened the show, Drizzy gets a call from his pal and fellow Canadian sensation Justin Bieber, who couldn’t attend the show because he’s touring. The Biebs gets all emotional when he finds a present from Drizzy in his dressing room. “It’s just that play-off season is starting, and the new season of Degrassi is starting… I just feel like people have forgotten about me,” Biebs says. Drake assures Biebs that no one, especially not his home country, could ever forget him. They then tenderly duet to Sarah McLachlan‘s “I Will Remember You.” Now that’s a bromance!
In another sketch, Drizzy’s searching for a new audience to help propel his new album, Take Care, to new heights, and heads to a nursing home to get in good with the older crowd. After a few hilarious lessons in rap, swag, and partying like a member of Young Money (and another highly appreciated mention of Degrassi), Drake assembles his new crew, Old Money.
Drake’s other job as nominee was a bust; he didn’t win a thing. But as host…#winning.
