Video: Miley Cyrus Rocks Out With Joan Jett On ‘Oprah’

Joan Jett and Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus got a chance to rock out with one of her idols, the legendary, badass rocker chick Joan Jett, on today’s episode of ‘Oprah.’

As Miley jammed with Joan on classics like “Bad Reputation,” “Cherry Bomb,” and “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” she looked like a kid in a candy store. It was an obvious dream come true for the 18-year-old singer/actress, who frequently performed a medley of Joan’s hits in concert.

“It’s amazing,” Miley said of performing with Joan. “I auditioned for my show with ‘I Love Rock & Roll’ and the first album I ever made, I had ‘I Love Rock & Roll,’ so it’s something that’s always meant something to me, just seeing Joan stand up for chicks who want to play the guitar. It’s something that’s always inspired me. I’m happy I could be here with her. It means a lot to be here.”

Oprah couldn’t let Miley go without asking her about her transition from child star to adult musician. “It’s not about how far I can push things so people will believe I’m not Hannah Montana anymore. You just make the music that you love,” she said. “Because I’m growing up, so does my music. It’s not about trying to make a statement about growing up. You just do.” Well, that whole “Can’t Be Tamed” era sure looked like a “statement about growing up”…

Phenomenal!!! That’s the best duet I’ve seen in a long time. Joan was smart to pick Miley as her partner on this one.

I thought Joan and Miley had great chemistry and energy. I wasn’t surprised they sounded good together, I heard Miley cover Joan’s songs in concerts on youtube. But I don’t agree that Miley looked like a kid in a candy store, she respects Joan, but she looked like she belonged up there singing with someone she admired. It seemed she viewed Joan as an accomplished musician, not a goddess. I also thought Miley held back some in reverence to Joan, she didn’t give the entire strength of her voice in respect to Joan. She knew people were there to see Joan and Stevie and other veteran rockers/singers.

Seriously.. Miley singing with Joan Jett.. Avril Lavigne with Pat Benatar.. Most of the women on this show have been around for years.. Joan Jett is a legend and Miley should not have been singing with her. Miley is no legend she was on Hanna Montana.. and i dont think she will ever be a Joan Jett… Pat Benatar sounded awesome and Avril Lavigne’s voice is no where near as strong as Pat Benatars.. It was sad actually how much power Pat Benatar had and how quiet and lame Avril sounded.
Stevie Nicks and Sheryl Crow on the other hand were great together…
