Lady Gaga in "Judas"
A biblical story told through the eyes of a glam biker gang? Yep, that wackiness is the video for Lady Gaga‘s holier-than-the-dancefloor track “Judas.”
To the delight of many, the much-hyped video, directed by Gaga herself and creative director and choreographer Laurieann Gibson, actually is more wacky than it is, as Katy Perry might say, blasphemous.
Just as she warned, Gaga plays Mary Magdalene in the tale of the brutish backstabber Judas. There is Jesus, rocking a golden thorn crown, and other religious figures and symbolism abounds in the clip, but the intertwined biker concept and the juxtaposed choreography shots make the video far less heavy than we were expecting. Because, seriously, how can you cry blasphemy over a gun that shoots lipstick? You’ll see that at 3:36.
The video makes its full-length debut — this version is shortened — tonight on E! News at 7pm EST.
