Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga wrapped herself in a fabulous head-to-toe houndstooth print ensemble and got cozy next to Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck to co-host today’s (August 1) episode of The View.
During the hot topics segment, Gaga talk about her feelings on Amy Winehouse‘s tragic death. “I’m just so devastated and so sad, and I really couldn’t speak for like 48 hours straight,” Gaga said. She said the most unfortunate thing about Amy’s passing is the way the media’s been covering the tragedy. “[The media is] like ‘Oh, here we can learn from Amy’s death.’ I don’t feel that Amy needed to learn any lessons. I felt that the lesson was for the world to be kinder to the superstar. Everyone was so hard on her and everything that I knew about her was that she was the most lovely and nice and kind woman.”
Gaga also talked about leaving hard drugs behind (“I am a little part of the green club sometimes,” she said), expressed her joy over the legalization of gay marriage in her hometown of New York (“YEEEEAAAAHHHH!” she shouted), the “godly spirit” of the late Clarence Clemons, and much more.
After chatting it up with the ladies, Gaga took the stage to perform her new single, “You and I,” complete with personalized lyrics about her four colleagues for the day. “Put your hands up for Nebraska, for Whoopi, Barbara, Joy, Elisabeth, I love ya,” she sang near the end of the performance.
But that wasn’t the end of Gaga on The View. She played the show out with a personalized performance of “The Edge Of Glory.” “I’m on the edge of glory and I’m hanging on a moment with The View.”
