Katy Perry‘s leading sum of nominations for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards just increased.

The pop star’s video for her ubiquitous hit, “Firework,”  has been nominated for Best Video With A Message, a brand new category the network just added to this year’s show.

The added nomination takes Katy up from nine nominations who a staggering 10.

The new category gives Perry one more reason to smile. She spoke out against some of her fellow pop star pals, including Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Ke$ha, and Robyn, being snubbed by the show, but this category remedies at least one of those snubs. Swift’s clip for the bully-bashing “Mean” gets some recognition. (Rihanna’s controversial message video for “Man Down” and Robyn’s for “Indestructible,” both fitting of nominations, remain snubbed.)

Other Best Video With A Message nominees include Pink‘s “F*ckin Perfect,” Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way,” Rise Against‘s “Make It Stop (September’s Children),” and Eminem‘s “Love The Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna.

The 2011 MTV VMAs take place on August 28 at 8pm EST on MTV.
