Missy Elliott took a break from working on her long-awaited comeback album to join Katy Perry‘s drunken party on the remix to Katy’s latest single, “Last Friday Night (TGIF).”
“It’s a Friday night now here we go/I ain’t no stripper but I work the pole,” Missy opens the track with. Her all-too-brief verse, against a newly added bass-busting beat, continues with a shout out to the bartender pouring the good stuff, getting so twisted she can’t see, and waking up with a hot guy in her bed.
Then it’s back to regularly scheduled Katy for awhile as she picks up from the second verse just the same as the original version of the track. Missy (and the new beat) returns one more time to say they should “do this sh*t like every weekend” and “pour my drink til there ain’t nothing left.”
If the release of this remix wasn’t so hastened, the pairing of Katy and Missy could have been something truly magical, but as it stand, it’s pretty blah. But the pop star is on a mad dash to get the song to No. 1 so that she can tie Michael Jackson‘s record for an album producing the most No. 1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. Katy’s Teenage Dream is currently at four No. 1’s: “California Gurls,” the title track, “Firework,” and “E.T.” She needs five to tie MJ’s Bad album. “Last Friday Night” sits at No. 2 on the chart this week.
