American Idol’s Lee DeWyze Dropped From RCA Records

Lee DeWyze - PCN

American Idol season 9 winner Lee DeWyze and his record label, RCA, have parted ways.

The official news of Lee’s departure from his recording home was confirmed by RCA Records’ new head honcho Peter Edge in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

The announcement shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. Lee’s debut album, 2010′s Live It Up, debuted and peaked at No. 19 after selling only 39,000 copies. To date, the album has sold 168,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Lee was open about his debut album’s slow first-week sales. ‘People wanted to bash on me and I was, like, “I don’t really f—ing care.’ I don’t. I’m gonna do what I do because I love doing it and for the people that like my music,” DeWyze said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “So for me, the album release wasn’t my best day. It was pretty upsetting. Not because of where it was or how much it sold, there were just so many things going against it.”

A representative for Lee says that he’s ”in a good place right now” and that he’s working on several new projects. One of which is the follow-up to his debut album.

LOL Surprised it even took this long. This is proof that the people who VOTE during Idol are not representative of the greater record-buying public. I think Idol should diminish the influence of the public vote in selecting the final winner.
