This season of X Factor USA could be the first and last for Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones in their respective roles, this according to several media reports.
Scherzinger, who drew a firestorm of negative comments and even death threats after playing a role in the elimination of two of the season’s youngest and most beloved contestants, Drew and Rachel Crow, told reporters at a recent X Factor USA press conference that she hasn’t made any commitments to return as a judge on the show’s second season, saying she’d rather focus now on getting Josh Krajcik through the big finale.
“For me, what’s important is to live in the moment. I’ve got to get Josh through this and to come out swinging,” she said. “…I’ve had a lot of fun this season. The reason I took this job is I wanted to mentor, first and foremost… It has been very hard on me, the elimination process. It’s something I could never have been prepared for.”
Perhaps Nicole is being so coy about her decision to return as judge because there are already plans to have her fill the role as host instead. (It’s the job Scherzinger was hired for before British pop star Cheryl Cole was kicked off the panel early in the season.)
According to the Daily Mirror, Steve Jones is out as XF host. “He got terrible reviews from critics when he started and things haven’t got better. There have been mistakes and he just doesn’t seem to have the knack for dealing with contestants,” a source told the publication. “The executives at Fox have already decided not to renew his contract and so, short of a miracle happening, it is pretty much a done deal that he will not take part next season.”
We’ll have to wait until 2012 to see if these reports are legit. Says a spokesperson for X Factor USA: “No discussions have been had and no decisions will be made about any new contracts until the new year.”
