American Idol Recap: A Cop, A Cowboy, A Tent Girl Cause Drama As Group Round Gets Underway

Alisha Bernhardt

American Idol season 11 served up a hefty dose of DRAMA last night, as the sudden death round wrapped up and the infamous groups round of Hollywood week got underway.

Before all the fun and oh-no-you-didn’t action of the groups could start, we had to see what happened to 16-year-old Symone Black, who collapsed and fell right off the stage on Wednesday night’s episode. Turns out she was fine, a little banged up from the fall and dehydrated, but fine. It also turns out she survived the first round of cuts and was able to go find a group after she and her overbearing stage dad returned from the hospital.

And on to groups! Dun dun dun! Of course it was a dramatic mess, and we wouldn’t want it any other way. Last night’s eppy focused on all of the personality clashing that happens before groups are formed.

Contestants were told that their groups had to consist of day one and day two singers. Some found it easy to mix and match to get their groups together, while others were left ass out in their search, for various reasons. Like police officer Alisha Bernhardt, who went about her pursuit of a group in the bitchiest way humanly possible. But when no one was wooed by her domineering charms, she insisted it was because “Nobody likes cops.” Girl, bye.

Amy Brumfield, also known as “Tent Girl” because she literally lives in a tent in the woods, was another drama-starter. Not because she’s a raging beotch like Alisha, but because she was seriously ill and spreading those germs like wildfire. She formed a short-lived trio with Alisha, but bolted when another group with a less bitchy leader scooped her up.

And then there was Richie Law aka Fake! Scotty McCreery. The cowboy hat-sporting teen clashed with his group, comprised of standouts Heejun Han, Phillip Phillips, and Jairon Jackson, over creative differences, aka he thought he knew it all and his group wasn’t having that. No one was more vocal about their disdain for Law than Heejun. “The cowboy kid is crazy,” Heejun said. “I don’t know how they do it in cowboy town, but this is not how we break it down.” Heejun would spew more rage gems against Law, like, “We started out really rough. Phillip had a kidney stone and Cowboy had a brain stone. I don’t know what’s going on this him,” and “Now I have a very, very bad perspective towards cowboys. Even Dallas Cowboys. Freakin’ cowboys.”

In the middle of these stories, there were tears, vomiting, whining, stage mom-ing, more bossiness, and — SHOCK! — camaraderie.

The groups take the stage to give their performances on next Wednesday’s show. We can’t wait!

Agreed. Hollywood Hell week was just terrible. The whining, the “ailments”, everyone’s sooo tired. Who needs to watch that? American Idol is done. Nothing exciting this year.
