It has yet to be officially confirmed that Chris Brown is the feature that will “shock the world” on the remix to Rihanna‘s sexy club-banger “Birthday Cake” as reports suggest, but fans, critics, and media alike are already voicing their opinions about the possibility of the former couple’s re-teaming. And opinions, especially those in the media, are overwhelmingly negative.
Billboard.com’s associate editor, Jason Lipshutz, issued an open letter to the “We Found Love” singer, expressing his disappointment in her apparent forgiveness of her ex, who, as everyone should know by now, violently assaulted her the night before the Grammys three years ago, saying, “The news about CB dropping by your ‘Birthday Cake’ remix… damn. …Do you, Rihanna! But, in all honesty… you can’t do you, Rihanna. Not here. Not with Chris Brown. Because like it or not, millions of people are paying attention to you, trying to be as cool as you, attempting to find love in a hopeless place and wondering if it’s okay to walk down the same dark alleyway twice. Young girls look up to people like you to guide them through circumstances too complex for them to tackle on their own, and by granting Chris Brown an iota of tolerance, you implicitly encourage others to consider doing the same.”
Spin Magazine is calling the purported collaboration “a career killer” for Rihanna. “With the exception of a fanatical Team Breezy following and a handful of celebs, everybody with clout hates Chris,” Spin’s Marc Hogan writes. “But Rihanna is different. She’s loved! She collaborates with the polite-to-a-fault likes of Coldplay! She racks up hit after hit! She has something to lose….Live your life, as a wise woman once sang. But don’t squander the love of an adoring public, which is centered on Rihanna now, but could just as easily find another pop darling if every mention of this one’s name conjures up visions of a violent jerk.”
Another publication, long-running music webzine Groove Volt, has sworn off covering both Rihanna and Chris ever again because of their possible reunion on “Birthday Cake.” “Chris Brown and Rihanna have reunited on a new single leaving many to question the credibility of the victim and the remorse of the convicted. And with that I’m done. I don’t want to hear about Rihanna anymore. I don’t want to hear about Chris Brown anymore. I don’t want to hear about Rihanna and Chris Brown anymore…with this latest twist in the saga, I see no reason to write about either of them any longer.”
Meanwhile, the pop queen herself is seemingly responding to the backlash with a series of tweets that suggest she doesn’t give a flying eff what these outlets or anyone else thinks: “They can say whatever, Ima do whatever… No pain is forever <—–YUP! YOU KNOW THIS” “Go head talk sh*t…its all in da paper!!! Lemme grab my d*ck while ya sit on top!!!” “Music heals the world…we need more!!!!” “I feel bad for that poor bandwagon… Trying its hardest to fit everyone” “Chiefin’ while ppl spend hrs on letters… *kanye shrug* #phuckit”
Besides promoting his new music video for “Turn Up The Music,” Breezy has remained silent.
The “Birthday Cake” remix is scheduled to drop next week.

I don’t think they realize just how rich both of them are.
And just how loyal his fan base is. And how large hers is. Meaning they don’t give a F.
These blogs say they will not cover them, but others will. This idea that everyone hates Chris Brown is a myth. Radio stations play him like crazy. His new song Turn Up The Music is a top 10 songs on itunes already.
He just won a grammy. And every song she does somehow becomes a #1. They really don’t give a ….
And billboard magazine has never liked Chris. When he made his comeback in 2010, they were mad about it. No one with clout likes Chris? Please. It’s not as if the people he collaborates look like Chris Martin from Coldplay.
The ppl he works with are black and the black community doesn’t have a problem with Chris. Some White people do. And we all know black people are his audience. These bloggers think they are so powerful.
Everyone with clout his a problem with Chris? Really. Please explain his grammy win and 11 nominations. Those are the only ppl who matter. His peers. Who clearly think he’s talented.
And Rihanna is no damn role model. Girls don’t look up to her. They want to dress like her. This is men in their 40s shouldn’t write for music blogs. They forgot what it meant to be young. Thinking Rihanna is a role model is hilarious.
Thanks for the laugh. Talk about beyond ridiculous. Rihanna is no role model and she damn sure isn’t Jesus fucking Christ! Rihanna lives her life like Rihanna wants to. C.B. is not the devil no matter how much you try turn him into one. C is not on the track, but people are so desperate for negative news on him they post whatever they hear. Where were the millions of other open letters for every artist under the sun who did whatever the fuck they wanted to do? She has forgiven him and both have moved on. They are friends, not lovers. A Famous 22 year old and 24 year should not be treated as if they’re Martin Luther fucking King! Hell, even MLK cheated on his wife. They are not your poster children for domestic violence! Stop putting your problems are two young kids! I’m kid myself and I would go insane if I were in their shoes.
Some Black people DO have a problem with Chris Brown–quit stereotyping. I’m Black and I’d never support him again. He hasn’t done anything but show his nasty character since that beating. From throwing chairs through windows at GMA to cussing and slurring gay people on twitter. And then there’s his gloating over his Grammys recently. SMH I do not support him and will not support her either anymore. Believe that.
Rihanna and Chris Brown can do whatever they want and the public, blogs etc can support or not. Rihanna’s main fansbase ARE people in the mainstream–White people. Don’t forget that.
