It was a close call for singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw but the star survived to dance another week on Dancing With The Stars.

During season 14’s first live results show, Gavin and his partner, pro dancer Karina Smirnoff, landed in the bottom two against tennis star Martina Navratilova and her pro teammate Tony Dovolani. Both pairs scored 20 points during the first week of performances. While Gavin’s score improved during the second week of dances–he received 21 points for his jive–Martina nosedived. She received just 17 points for her version of the dance. Martina and Tony landed at the bottom of the leaderboard and scored the least amount of fans votes, making them the first pair eliminated this season.

“None of us got any pleasure seeing Martina leave the show last night,” Gavin said on Twitter. “She’s a TRUE CHAMPION for always seeking new challenges. #dwts #honored”

  1. Dancing with the Stars always uses “…you are in jeopardy” but it does not necessarily mean they are in the bottom. Usually not until it gets down toward the end are they ones “in jeopardy” really the ones in the bottom 2.
