Another Maroon 5 album is on the way, and to get fans ready for the new set, Overexposed, the band has released the album’s first single, “Payphone,” featuring Wiz Khalifa.
The mid-tempo tune finds the guys lamenting a deteriorating relationship. “I’ve wasted my nights/You turned out the lights/Now I’m paralyzed/Still stuck in that time when we called it love/But even the sun sets in paradise,” frontman Adam Levine sings before the chorus kicks in. “I’m at a payphone trying to call home/All of my change I spent on you/Where have the times gone?/Baby, it’s all wrong/Where are the plans we made for two?”
Wiz pops up later in the song with a verse about how regretful the unlucky lady will be for walking away. “I’ll be out spending all this money while you sitting ’round wondering why it wasn’t you who came up from nothing,” he raps.
In related news, M5 and Wiz will give the debut performance of “Payphone” live tonight on The Voice. Immediately following the performance, fans can purchase the track on iTunes.
