Tony Lucca was panned by rival coach and fellow Mickey Mouse Club co-star Christina Aguilera as one dimensional during his first live performance on The Voice. To prove that he is anything but, the singer decided to take on another Mouse House breakout star: Britney Spears.
During tonight’s (April 23) quarter finals performance show, Tony and his coach, Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, decided to stare the MMC back story in the face and have Lucca perform one of Britney Spears’ biggest hits: “Baby One More Time.” Tony’s version was more rock driven and edgy and had the crowd screaming their lungs out. Host Carson Daly called it “Bieber loud” in the studio.
After the performance, all eyes were on Xtina for her opinion. “Let’s get Britney Spears out here on the stage and let’s do a real Mickey Mouse Club reunion,” she said, drawing screams from the crowd. “And get Justin [Timberlake] too.”
But what did she think of Tony’s performance? “I enjoyed it. It was fun, it was different. And you put a different twist on the song and I enjoyed it.”
