Video: Tony Lucca Covers Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” On The Voice

Tony Lucca

Tony Lucca has 99 problems but stirring up controversy on The Voice doesn’t seem to be one. The popular Team Adam Levine singer and former Mickey Mouse Club star decided to give his take on Jay-Z‘s rap smash “99 Problems” for his finale performance before the show opens votes up to America to select a winner.

Like his standout performance of Britney Spears‘ “Baby One More Time,” Lucca flipped the song around to create something totally new. His cover of the Jay-Z hit was part rock, part pop with a dash of country. All the coaches seemed to enjoy it but a snide remark from fellow MMCer Christina Aguilera wasn’t far away. “Tonight you came here and you know, I know your beautiful wife and your daughter and family are here tonight and I just thought the lyrical connotation was a little derogatory towards women but all in all, it was good fun,” Xtina said.

Tony’s coach Adam tried to clarify the song’s “I got 99 problems but a b*tch ain’t one” lyric saying it was a metaphor for “life getting at you, things bringing you down. We’re not referring to women. We’re referring to everything.” Christina wasn’t totally buying it, bringing up the fact that before that line, the song says “if you’re having girl problems I feel bad for you son.” To smooth the tension over, Adam revealed his glittered “Team Xtina” shirt. No love lost here.

You think Lucca might have been singing at Christina – I do

  2. It’s a Hugo song… not a Jay-Z one…

  3. That song is woman-hate and it’s a shame it was considered acceptable in an otherwise uplifting night….and it’s a shame to see it broadcast here again. Kudos to Christina for trying to school the dudebros.

  4. thebutterflyz says:

what are they making this such a big deal.. a song is a song is a song..does anybody remember christina’s dirty days… i think she forgot them

  5. I think Christina brought more disrespect on women just by the bitchy way she acted tonight and subsequent nights towards Tony Luka. It has been obvious she has has it out for him for some reason we just don’t know, yet she could have been gracious. She chose to act like a coniving, contriving manipulative type of woman to bump him from the show that gives a new meaning to “mean girls”. Chris Mann, however, is a gentleman in everyway and is so talented and I hope is not overshadowed by her mean spirited sillyness.
