Could Adam Lambert be an American Idol contestant turned judge? It’s a possibility, according to a new report.

E! Online is reporting that the glam god and season 8 runner-up is in talks to join the judges panel, as the future of the current judges — Jennifer Lopez, Randy Jackson, and Steven Tyler — remain “up in the air.”

“They have been talking about Adam for over a month,” an anonymous source told the publication.  “He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start. He knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the judges’ comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can’t go wrong if they bring him on. He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show. People love him.”

Lambert already has some experience helping Idol contestants along on their journey. He returned to the show as a mentor during season 9, helping that season’s top 9 with their Elvis theme week.

Fox has refused to comment on E!’s story, and Lambert has yet to comment on the reports.

I can’t think of a person better suited to be an AI judge. Adam is compassionate, without fawning. Adam is witty, without being sarcastic. He is incredibly knowledgeable about vocal technique AND performing. Adam is honest to a fault, without being harsh. He has tons of experience and is extremely articulate. Adam Lambert is actually tailor made for this position. Would he be up for it? Hard to say. He is promoting his brilliant new album, Trespassing, and fronting Queen. He could actually save this show! Adam is also very good looking, young, and very well liked and respected in the music industry! Brilliant choice!
