J. Cole has been relatively quiet lately, but he’s got a reason for that. The North Carolina-repping, Grammy-nominated rapper appeared on stage last night (July 25) at the Mike Barber and DJ Spynfo’s Mic Check showcase, and explained why he’s been keeping his new music hush hush.
“I ain’t drop nothing in a while ’cause I feel like, man, we in this digital age where sh*t move so fast,” he said. “N*ggas got songs every week. We can’t even keep up with this sh*t… so I decided to take a step back.” But, he admits, “I be getting the itch.”
Cole scratched that itch as he debuted a verse on an introspective new track, titled “Chaining Day.” Cole gets deep about how the game and the fame aren’t at all the way he pictured it. Verse starts at 3:15.
