The red carpet at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards was the place for announcements tonight (September 6). While pop stars Ke$ha and Miley Cyrus couldn’t quite top rapper Wiz Khalifa and fiance Amber Rose‘s baby news, their new music announcements were still major moments.
Ke$ha, who has long been dropping updates via Twitter about the status of her hotly-anticipated sophomore album, confirmed that she will be releasing her new single, titled “Die Young,” this month.
While she was mum on details about the track, she did say that the new album, which follows-up her debut album, Animal, and its re-release, Cannibal, will explore her “rock roots.”
“The first two records talked more about partying, which is a great, magical part of life, but some songs on the new record are more personal and vulnerable,” she told MTV. “And you can hear more of the music I listen to when I’m lying in my bed. I’m not claiming that it’s a rock record, but as long as it’s f*cking good, you can call it whatever you want.”
Cyrus’ musical plans aren’t quite as solid, but new music is coming, and soon. “I’ll have a single out this year,” she told E! “This is the first time I get to tell people about it, so I’m really excited.”
Cyrus, who just debuted her revamped website, says the sound of her new music “is really different.” “We’ve been working really hard and the record, I’m really proud of the album,” she said. “It’s my favorite thing I’ve done, probably ever.”
