The auditions are over and now it’s time to trim the fat with the boot camp round on The X Factor USA. Over the last week, we’ve seen the hopefuls fight it out in a series of solo and versus battle performances, hoping to make it through for a shot at performing at the judge’s houses. 120 acts became 60 and 60 will turn into just 24 when everything is said and done.
Before the top 24 finalist are chosen by judges L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell and Britney Spears, take a look at the best moments from the boot camp round during this week’s episodes of The X Factor USA.:
Jennel Garcia: Jennel sort of bombed her battle performance but before that happened, she slayed with a super sexy performance of Gavin DeGraw’s “Sweeter” during the solos. The judges loved it with L.A. Reid calling it “spicy.”
Willie Jones: Willie was all confidence and awesomeness during his solo performance of “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.” Unfortunately, it wouldn’t last for the versus round. He falls apart up against veteran country singer Tate Stevens, forgetting almost all his lyrics. Like Willie did his lyrics, let’s forget that and remember when he rocked it.
Carly Rose Sonenclar vs. Beatrice Miller: Cuteness overload! These 13-year-old singers possess some of the best voices in the competition and they showcased it during their battle of Foster The People’s “Pumped Up Kicks.” Here’s hoping they can both stick around.
Jillian Jensen vs. Latasha Robinson: Latasha just knew she was going to kill her performance–in the good way. Turns out she killed it alright–in the bad way. She forgets all the lyrics to her portion of the battle song “Stay” by Sugardland. Sweet little ol’ Jillian tried to come in for the save, feeding her lyrics but Latasha was done. Boo hoo. Jillian finishes out the performance with soulful goodness.
CeCe Frey vs. Paige Thomas: “Best” is used loosely in the case of these singers. These girls have some of the weakest voices (and most annoying personalities) in the competition but since the producers keep giving them so much screen time, let’s just go with it. Since the solo round of boot camp, CeCe and Paige have been battling. They engaged in an unofficial sing off of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” but it was the official battle of OneRepublic’s “Secrets” that showed who really has it to be in this tough industry. Paige allowed CeCe to completely overrule her with the song choice–even standing by silently while CeCe lied about who picked the song. To make matters worst, she flubs her lyrics and allows CeCe to outdo her during the battle. Paige will need to toughen up quick if she wants to survive the music biz.
