It’s been 10 years since Kelly Clarkson was crowned the inaugural American Idol. In that decade, the pop powerhouse has amounted numerous awards, sold a buttload of albums, and had a number of successful tours. In celebration of the whirlwind decade, Clarkson is releasing a greatest hits album, and heading it off with her new single, “Catch My Breath.”
The upbeat song is really less about her career and more about where she is now in her life and her new found ability to appreciate what really matters. “I’ve spent most of my time catching my breath, letting it go, turning my cheek for the sake of the show/Now that you know this is my life/I wont be told what’s supposed to be right/Catch my breath/No one can hold me back, I ain’t got time for that/Catch my breath/Won’t let them get me down, it’s all so simple now,” Kelly sings on the chorus.
“This song represents who I’ve been, what I’ve felt, and where I’m headed as not only an artist but as a 30 year old that is now smart enough to know that it’s time to stop, catch my breath, and be proud of not only what has been accomplished but of all the people that have helped me become the woman I am today,” Kelly said of the song last week. This morning as she premiered it on On Air with Ryan Seacrest, she revealed it was her boyfriend, Brandon Blackstock, who really helped her settle down. “I fell in love, she said. “I think when you finally fall in love with someone, it makes you more comfortable.”
Kelly’s Greatest Hits – Chapter 1 album is out on November 19. Listen to “Catch My Breath” below:
