Well, this was different. The usually soulful Jermaine Paul, season two winner of The Voice and former Alicia Keys backup singer, debuted a new side of himself when he stopped by the show’s live results show last night (November 9) to perform his new single.
With a crowd of dancers surrounding him, Jermaine performed his new dance/pop song “I Believe In This Life.” Paul, who despite the material will still give a fantastic vocal performance, looked awkward and unauthentic performing the song that would be better suited for an Usher, Ne-Yo or Chris Brown.
Judging by the response the performance is garnering on YouTube, we’re not the only ones confused by the genre direction for the singer. Fans (and not so fans) are panning the song and performance, calling it “freaking lame” to “pop crap.” Ouch!
The single is now available on iTunes. Watch the performance below.
