After losing two singers last week, The Voice’s remaining top 10 took the stage to give stunning live performances last night (November 19).
Coaches Christina Aguilera, Cee-Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine worked hard with their surviving acts–even bringing on special mentors like Jennifer Hudson, Ron Fair and Scott Hendricks. The hard work will need to translate into votes because two more singers will receive the boot during the live results show. Before the unpleasantries start, here’s what happened when the top 10 performed on the live performance show:
Sylvia Yacoub – Team Christina: Sylvia experienced a few pitchy notes during her performance of Alicia Keys’ “Girl On Fire” but you have to give the girl some credit. It’s a tough song to sing live–ask AKeys! Cee-Lo loved the song choice and Xtina loved the way she changed things up.
Terry McDermott – Team Blake: Count on Terry to give a solid, rocking performance! Terry delivered with “Summer of 69,” impressing the coaches yet again. Adam was all smad (sad and mad) because he really wanted Terry on his team and he’s not quite over not getting him. Blake was a proud coach, thanking the rocker for making him look so smart.
Melanie Martinez – Team Adam: Melanie performed a super cool, guitar-driven arrangement of “Seven Nation Army” by the White Stripes that worked really well with her softer voice. Blake loved seeing her play the guitar again and her coach Adam loved that she stuck to her guns and really pushed him to perform the song.
Cody Belew – Team Cee-Lo: Cody gave Xtina all the “bam bam” she wanted with a performance of Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love.” It was uber entertaining but came across very amateur–especially compared to talents on the show like Trevin Hunte and Terry McDermott. Blake enjoyed it and Xtina loved that he “worked it like a true diva.”
Bryan Keith – Team Adam: Bryan showed pride in his hometown of New York by giving a gorgeous performance of Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind.” Blake says he’s becoming a really big fan and Xtina could see that he’s really enjoying himself on stage.
Amanda Brown – Team Adam: Amanda is back! After giving a not so bad but not so great performance last week, Amanda knocked it out of the park with a performance of “Stars” by Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. Blake admitted that he didn’t know the song but loves the way Amanda introduced him to it.
Nicholas David – Team Cee-Lo: Nicholas is another singer in this competition that has consistently given great performances. He pulls out another one with a soulful performance of “Lean On Me,” showing off his piano skills along the way. Blake said watching Nicholas perform is like watching a legend and Xtina thought it sounded like “legendary chicken soup” going down nice and easy for her soul.
Trevin Hunte – Team Cee-Lo: Trevin wanted to remind America that he’s a fun, young man by performing Usher’s “Scream.” He slayed some high notes but it was still an odd song choice for him. Not because it was a dance/pop song but because it was one that did nothing for his voice (besides the high notes he threw in). Adam thinks Trevin can sing anything but admits it’s not his favorite moment. Xtina disagreed, saying it was her favorite moment.
Cassadee Pope – Team Blake: Cassadee gave a stunningly beautiful and emotional performance of “Over You” by Miranda Lambert, which was co-written by her coach Blake Shelton himself. Xtina was touched by the performance and Cee-Lo thought her voice was flawless. Blake says Cassadee made him feel like he was hearing the song for the first time and called her “an artist.”
Dez Duron – Team Christina: How in the world can anyone follow Cassadee’s performance?! Dez getting all crooner and performing “Feeling Good” does a pretty good job! Cee-Lo loved it and Xtina loved that he dug deep and delivered.
