There’s only four acts left on season 2 of the X Factor USA but before the final four were revealed, the top six took the stage to perform not once but twice. Each act would perform unplugged and then sing a song their fans selected for them with the Pepsi viewers’ choice challenge.
The viewers’ choice songs turned out to be far better than the unplugged picks for most but others really took the time to show off what they were made of with the stripped back performances. Here’s three of the best performances from this week’s live performance episode of the X Factor USA.
Carly Rose Sonenclar: Carly Rose doing Beyonce?! Yes please! Carly dazzled with King B’s “If I Were A Boy,” giving a much improved performance over her earlier unplugged performance of Justin Bieber’s “As Long As You Love Me.”
Fifth Harmony: Unlike Carly, these girls fared much better with this unplugged performance. They took on Adele’s “Set Fire To The Rain” with Lauren Jauregui taking the lead. That girl has a voice on her! Even though L.A. Reid completely ripped their harmonies (or lack thereof), we highly enjoyed it.
Tate Stevens: Tate’s fans really know what works for him. They chose Garth Brooks’ “If Tomorrow Never Comes” and he absolutely nailed it. All the judges enjoyed it and gave him a warm welcome “back to the competition” in Simon Cowell’s words. It was good enough to get him back to number one on the leaderboard.
