The final three X Factor USA contestants had the pleasure of performing with special celebrity guests on last night’s (December 19) live finals. But unfortunately for Carly Rose Sonenclar, Britney Spears‘ last teen singer, it’s hard to say it was one.
Sonenclar was joined by country/pop singer LeAnn Rimes for a performance of her song “How Do I Live.” As Rimes took the stage, the internet quickly exploded with viewers saying the singer appeared high or drunk. Rimes, clearly offended by the accusations, reportedly told TMZ that she was “in no way impaired,” and any awkwardness was because “I was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song.”
LeAnn later followed up with a response to the chatter on Twitter, saying: “In my 18 years of performing, I have never been anything but professional onstage. It is a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly, a very talented young girl. And while I have not given any media outlet a quote, if you want one, here it is ‘It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I’ll be watching for her to win tonight.'”
No matter what the problem was, it was not a flattering performance for the singer. Rimes sang both ahead of and behind the beat and tried to overshadow Carly Rose at times during the performance. Watch it below.
