The X Factor USA finale came down to front runners Carly Rose Sonenclar and Tate Stevens but only one could win. So who won?
Country singer and L.A. Reid‘s last over 25s singer, Tate Stevens, was crowned the winner of season two of the X Factor during last night’s (December 20) live finale results show. Although runner-up Carly Rose, Britney Spears‘ final teen singer, was a fierce competitor, Tate’s win wasn’t exactly a surprise. Stevens topped the leaderboard rankings more than any other act in the competition and has consistently received praise from the judges on his performances.
“First and foremost, I gotta thank the man upstairs for taking care of me,” Tate said after his big win. “My family, all the country music fans–God bless you and thank you so very much for all the votes. And this is the best day of my life.”
“Congratulations to you, you deserve this,” L.A. Reid said to his winning act. “I’m proud to work with you. I think you represent the X Factor really, really well so on behalf of myself, Simon and all of the judges: Congratulations.”
Finishing in third place was Simon Cowell‘s final group, Fifth Harmony. The group, consisting of Ally Brooke, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane Hansen, Camilla Cabello and Normani Hamilton, got off to a tough start in the competition. Each singer auditioned as solo acts and were eliminated during the boot camp round. Not too long after their elimination, they were called back on stage where they learned they would be placed back into the competition as a group. Though bonding as friends came easy, proving that they were a cohesive group was a struggle. Through multiple name changes (first Lylas and then 1432 meaning I Love You Too) and harsh critiques, they blossomed and beat out Cowell’s favorite group, boy band Emblem3, for a place in the finals.
The X Factor USA has already been renewed by Fox and will return for its third season next fall.
