Britney Spears‘ first season as a judge and mentor on X Factor USA will be her last, if a new report is correct. According to Us Weekly, citing several anonymous sources, Spears will be fired from the show before its third season.
“Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn’t working,” one source told the mag.
Another source points to Britney’s massive $15 million salary, saying she isn’t giving them the bang for those bucks. “They paid all that for her to say ‘amazing’ and offer half-claps,” the source said.
A third source, who Us says is close to X Factor creator Simon Cowell, says Cowell thinks Britney isn’t bringing the excitement he hoped for. “He wanted crazy Britney, but he got boring Britney,” said the source.
If Britney’s firing takes place as reported, it will be the latest in a long line of casting shakeups over the last two seasons. UK pop singer Cheryl Cole was axed in favor of former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger at the start of season one. Scherzinger, judge Paula Abdul, and host Steve Jones were all axed after the season wrapped, making room for Demi Lovato and Britney to join L.A. Reid and Cowell on the judges panel, and Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian as hosts for season 2. Earlier this month, Reid announced he would not be returning for season 3. No word yet on whether or not Demi will be back.
