The era of Britney Spears and her epic stink faces have reportedly come to an end on the X Factor USA, this according to TMZ. The celebrity gossip site reports that Spears will not return as a judge for the third season of Fox’s reality singing competition, deciding to quit the show to focus on her music and touring.
“Britney loves Simon, she likes Demi Lovato but her thing is music,” an anonymous source revealed to TMZ. The site goes on to say Spears is considering hitting the road once she completes her next album.
The new report of Britney leaving the show on her own contradicts an earlier report made by US Weekly saying Spears would be fired from the show. “Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn’t working,” one source told the mag. Another source points to Britney’s massive $15 million salary as the reason for her supposedly getting canned, saying she isn’t giving them the bang for those bucks. “They paid all that for her to say ‘amazing’ and offer half-claps,” the source said.
Once confirmed, Britney’s exit will be the latest in a long line of casting shakeups over the last two seasons of the X Factor USA. UK pop singer Cheryl Cole was axed in favor of former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger at the start of season one. Scherzinger, judge Paula Abdul, and host Steve Jones were all axed after the season wrapped, making room for Demi Lovato and Britney to join L.A. Reid and Cowell on the judges panel, and Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian as hosts for season 2. Reid announced he would not be returning for season 3 shortly before season two wrapped. No word yet on whether or not Demi will be back.
