On the eve of her debut as one of the new judges on season 12 premiere of American Idol, Nicki Minaj hit the Ellen DeGeneres show to chat all about her new gig. Of course, that meant once again addressing her highly-publicized feud with fellow Idol judge Mariah Carey.
“It was just two big ol’ divas, I guess,” Nicki said of their spat, which was caught on camera and circulated all over the internet. “Before I went in there, I heard all of the stuff that was being said, but I didn’t believe it. I heard them saying ‘Mariah doesn’t want you on the panel.’ And I was like, ‘No, I’m friends with Mariah’…and so I went there and I started feeling a little bit of the shade, and I just kinda like overcompensated by being crazier.”
Nicki’s interview wasn’t all about Mariah and their diva squabble. Ellen also managed to make Nicki squirm with questions about her love life. To them, Nicki remained mum, but she was forthcoming with the type of guy she’d date. “It has to be a strong person,” she said. “It has to be someone very secure.”
Capping off her visit, Nicki performed her latest single, “Freedom,” from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up.
