Beyonce critics, eat your hearts out. After coming under fire for lip-syncing over a backing track during her performance of the National Anthem at President Obama’s recent inauguration, the pop icon was given a do-over of sorts.
Beyonce appeared at the press conference for Super Bowl XLVII today (January 31) in New Orleans and dazzled the crowd filled with reporters with a live, pitch-perfect version of the National Anthem.
After knocking their socks off with her performance, she answered questions and explained exactly why she chose to use a backing track. “I am a perfectionist. And one thing about me: I practice until my feet bleed,” Beyonce said of her inauguration performance. “And I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. It was a live television show and a very, very important emotional show for me–one of my proudest moments–and due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper soundcheck, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk.” For this reason, the pop star says she opted to “sing along with my prerecorded track, which is very common in the music industry.” Despite having to uncharacteristically cut corners, King B says she’s proud of her performance.
Beyonce’s fantastic performance at the Super Bowl press conference is only a peek of what’s to come this weekend when she takes the stage as the halftime performer for the first time. Watch her more than redeeming Super Bowl press conference performance of the Star Spangled Banner below.
