John Mayer Announces First Tour Since Vocal Problems, Phillip Phillips To Open

John Mayer

Those shadow days are over for John Mayer, and he’s headed back out on the road to celebrate. The Grammy-winning musician has announced his first major tour since being derailed by a granuloma on his vocal cords in 2011.

Mayer’s trek in support of his latest album, Born And Raised, kicks off on July 6 in Milwaukee, WI then hits places such as Dallas, TX (July 13), Irvine, CA (July 27), Hartford, CT (August 16), Camden, NJ (August 23), Atlantic City, NJ (September 1), Tampa, FL (September 7), and San Diego, CA (October 4) before wrapping on October 5 in Los Angeles, CA.

Opening for Mayer’s tour will be season 11 American Idol champ Phillip Phillips, who will be performing in support of his debut album The World From The Side Of The Moon.

In March of last year, Mayer announced an indefinite break from touring following an unsuccessful surgery to repair his vocal problems. “Though there will be a day when all of this will be behind me, it will sideline me for a longer period of time than I care to have you count down,” he said at the time.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Mayer said his recovery from the second surgery was a dream come true. “The greatest gift I have in my life is the opportunity to play again, which is also the opportunity to dream again,” he said. “My dreams were in escrow, but when I found out this thing in my throat had receded, the most exciting thing for me was having a second chance at a new life. My dreams have come true twice. That’s really cool.”
