It’s official. Justin Timberlake‘s The 20/20 Experience is a huge smash.
The Grammy-winning pop megastar storms the Billboard 200 albums chart this week with his long-awaited, critically-acclaimed third studio album, debuting at No. 1 on the strength of an astonishing 968,000 copies sold in its first week out, according to Nielsen Soundscan and reported by Billboard.
The huge sales sum easily gives JT the biggest sales debut of 2013 and the biggest first-week for a male artist since Lil Wayne crossed a million units sold in 2008.
20/20 also crushes the debut sales week of its predecessor, 2006’s FutureSex/LoveSounds, which debuted atop the Billboard 200 with 684,000 copies sold.
JT has supported the release of The 20/20 Experience with an extraordinary promotional campaign that includes commercials for Target and Bud Light, concerts for DirecTV’s Super Bowl party, SXSW and a CW special, a huge stadium tour announcement, and multiple TV appearances, including a performance at the Grammys with Jay-Z, hosting and performing on Saturday Night Live and a week-long gig as musical guest on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
