The first batch of performers have been announced for the 2013 Billboard Music Awards and they’re all no strangers to the Billboard charts.
Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Miguel and the legendary Prince have all been confirmed as performers for this year’s Billboard Awards according to USA Today. The show will take place on May 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
More performers and nominations will be announced in the coming weeks.
Of the first set of performers tapped for the big awards show, two of them have had albums recently released that went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Taylor’s “Red” soared to No. 1 on October of 2012 after selling over 1 million copies. While Bruno’s latest album, “Unorthodox Jukebox,” fell short of a No. 1 debut when it was released in December thanks to the aforementioned “Red,” the set made it to No. 1 just last month. Finally, Bieber’s new acoustic album, “Believe Acoustic,” debuted at the top spot on the albums chart when it was released at the beginning of 2013.
Swift, Bieber, Mars and Miguel are also nominated for Billboard’s first-ever Milestone Award. The award, which The Band Perry and Pitbull are also nominated for, will “go to an innovative artist that achieved a notable chart milestone over the past year” according to Billboard.
