TIME released its 2013 list of the 100 Most Influential People In The World, and music stars like Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Miguel, and Frank Ocean found themselves among the chosen few.
Jay, who scored one of the seven covers for this year’s big issue and is named in the Titans section of the list, was hailed by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his “creativity and ambition.” “He’s an artist-entrepreneur who stands at the center of culture and commerce in 21st century America, and his influence stretches across races, religions and regions,” Bloomberg writes.
JT, listed as one of the Icons, received his praise-filled write-up from Stevie Wonder. “His star power comes from the fact that he sounds like he’s having fun when he makes music, and he can read a song—meaning as a singer or songwriter you can feel the emotion,” Wonder writes. “You think, I can relate to that or I believe in that, and then the listener can feel it too.”
B, also another icon, was gushed over by director Baz Luhrmann. “No one has that voice, no one moves the way she moves, no one can hold an audience the way she does,” writes Luhrmann. “And she keeps growing and evolving in the ways that she expresses herself as a singer, as a performer and now as a mother.”
Aguilera, Miguel, and Ocean are among the influential artists.
Celine Dion calls Aguilera ” one of the most talented artists the world has ever seen and heard;” TIME’s music critic praises Miguel’s music for its “constant innovation, formal daring, unexpected sources of inspiration, and emotional directness;” and John Legend says of Ocean, “he has the talent, the ability and the brilliance to have an impact for a long time.”
