Beyonce and Andre 3000‘s much-hyped cover of Amy Winehouse‘s “Back To Black” for The Great Gatsby soundtrack is finally here in full. The (heavily tagged) revamped version of Amy’s classic starts off with 3stacks delivering the first verse with a breathy, rap-sung tone over a dark, melodious beat very different from the original. B takes over with an almost-seductive retelling of the second verse.
It’s easy to pan this version of “Back To Black” because it is so different from the original. And, let’s face it, we’re all still reeling from the loss of Amy and are especially protective over her music right now. But you gotta admit it; it’s kinda cool what Dre and B did here. They approached it like a new song and made something totally fresh. We dig it.
The Great Gatsby soundtrack, which also features tunes by Lana Del Rey, Jay-Z, Florence + The Machine, Sia and more, is in stores on May 7.
