Song don’t come more raw and real than Kelly Rowland‘s newly-released track “Dirty Laundry.” The R&B star and former Destiny’s Child singer opens up about an abusive relationship in her past that left her and her relationship with one of her closest friends, Beyoncé, battered.
“While my sister was on stage killing it like a motherf*cker/I was in rage, feeling it like a motherf*cker/Bird in a cage/You would never know what I was dealing with,” she sings on the first verse. What she was dealing with was a physically and emotionally abusive man who managed to convince her, “Don’t nobody love you but me/Not your mama/Not your daddy/And especially not B.”
“He turned me against my sister,” she admits.
The honesty in this record is astounding. And Kelly is astounding for being brave enough to reveal her truth — from the bitterness she felt over B’s success to falling victim to her douchey ex’s mind games — in such a powerful way.
