Kelly Rowland kicked off her Lights Out tour with The-Dream in Silverspring, Maryland last night (May 26). And during her set, she gave an emotional performance of “Dirty Laundry,” her raw and honest track which chronicles the years of physical and emotional abuse she suffered at the hands of an ex-boyfriend.
The R&B star and former Destiny’s Child singer held it together fairly well throughout most of the performance, but she broke down in tears while singing one of the song’s most heartbreaking lyrics. “He said ‘don’t nobody love you but me/Not your mama, not your daddy, and especially not B’/He turned me against my sister.” After the crowd began a supportive chant of “Kelly! Kelly!” she got herself together and finished like a pro.
“Dirty Laundry” is taken from Kelly’s new album, Talk A Good Game, out on June 18.
